Biography

Spielfreude is an international band based in Germany. Spielfreude means “joy of playing” in German.

After band leader and guitarist Iori disbanded his Japanese metal group, he began looking for new members for a new, more ambitious project online. He sought great musicians that both wanted to play technically challenging metal music and wanted to work overseas.

He was certain that there were people the world over who wanted to bring their talents to as wide an audience as possible, and thought that YouTube would be the best means of finding them.

After posting some cover songs, he also added videos for Spielfreude as well. In 2009, he posted the first shortened demo version of Kingdom In A Dream.

From his experiences writing Kingdom In A Dream, he started searching for new inspiration and began developing a style reminiscent of his power metal heroes, DragonForce.

And when he heard the music of Knightrider of Doom (KoD), he knew he’d found what he was looking for. Retro video game sounds are the perfect match for melodic metal – that was what Spielfreude needed.

It took some time, but KoD was finally convinced to join Spielfreude as a special additional member.

In 2016 the bassist Michael joined Spielfreude, cementing the core line up of the band. In the fall of 2019, Iori, Michael, and their latest guitarist Raf met for the first time in person in Germany.

As the three continued writing songs, they also auditioned new vocalists, and found their singer Angel in the spring of 2020. They are now working on recording their first album.

Fans of uncompromising, catchy melodic power metal are sure to love Spielfreude.
